About This Special Issue
Regenerative science & medicine is one of the most promising disciplines for advancements in modern medicine and regeneration, and ophthalmology is one of the most active fields of regenerative medicine. This special issue aims to provide an overview of recent advancements of regenerative science and medicine in ophthalmology, including the range of tools and materials being used, and to describe its application in ophthalmology subspecialties, including but not limited to surgical implantation of natural tissues or organs (e.g., amniotic membrane tissue, mucous membrane, bionic eyes, bioengineering of artificial cornea, retina cells, etc.,). This special issue is designed to put together studies and research design by clinicians and scientists in multiple disciplines who are working to accelerate cures and restore vision in patients with degenerative eye diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cornea, and dry eye disease, and inherited retinal disorders. In addition, we also encourage these clinicians & scientists to submit papers on current challenges and limitations of regenerative science & medicine in ophthalmology and discuss future research directions.
